01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Tucked along the Toden Arakawa tramline in Takinogawa, Kita Ward, Kirara operates out of a family lumber merchant, welcoming guests into a calming tea space framed by the warmth of natural wood. The workshop and retail premises, normally quiet during the workweek, open on Sunday afternoons and select days to offer an unhurried retreat.

The menu centers on homemade sweets made with rolled oats and oat milk. The oat milk pudding comes dressed with a bittersweet caramel sauce, and can also be enjoyed as a decadent Double Pudding à la Mode, artfully garnished with ice cream, fruit, and bite-sized sponge cakes. A baked cheesecake made with oat flour, beet sugar, and cane sugar shares the roster with a moist, matcha-infused version that brings out deep, earthy undertones. Heart-shaped Asukayama baby castella, baked from rice flour and soy flour without butter or milk, come in plain, matcha, and cocoa varieties—a light confection that also travels well as takeaway.

Beverages include smooth house-blend coffee, Shizuoka matcha lattes whisked to order, and classic black teas such as Uva, Darjeeling, and Dimbula. Decaffeinated Earl Grey and herbal infusions ensure there is always a fragrant brew on hand for a relaxed afternoon chat.
